About Heather Wilsey
I'm excited and honored to be a candidate for Saint Louis Park School Board. I live in the Fern Hill neighborhood with my husband of twenty-one years, our two daughters and our dog, Olive. We moved to Saint Louis Park from Duluth in 2013. Our daughters attended Susan Lindgren Elementary School and, this fall, Hanna will enter 8th grade at SLP Middle School and Maren will enter 9th grade at SLP High School. Between them, they are involved in orchestra, soccer, synchronized swimming, nordic skiing, and ultimate frisbee.
I am a first-grade teacher in the West Saint Paul school district. Over a fifteen year teaching career, I have been a classroom teacher at all K-3 levels. I also taught students in Gifted & Talented and Title I Reading and Math support. Additionally, I helped develop and teach a classroom Spanish program. Having grown up in the area, moving to Saint Louis Park closes the circle on a 20-year journey that has provided teaching, parenting and life experiences in Minnesota, Florida, Ecuador (as a Peace Corps Volunteer), and Mexico.
As a candidate for the SLP School Board, I bring the lessons from these rich experiences to our community's ongoing conversation about the present and future of our schools. I believe these diverse experiences capture some of the complexities faced by a community striving to create the best learning opportunities for our children.
